Strike: ASUU blasts Akunyili – The Champion

July 4, 2009 by tim

Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), yesterday, lambasted the Information and Communications Minister, Prof. Dora Akuyili, over the statement she made Wednesday that federal government has met all the demands of ASUU, apart from their salaries.

ASUU also disclosed that it is on current strike to persuade government to be serious once and for all and to take the interest of its citizens seriously by signing the agreement already reached.

ASUU through its national president, Prof. Ukachukwu Awuzie, at a press briefing in Lagos, yesterday, said “the statement is to say the least, a sad development coming from the Federal Executive Council, as a bundle of misinformation and calculated attempt to trivialize the essence and spirit of the negotiation that lasted for two and half years.”

Let's not pretend that our government, not even mr president (an ex- lecturer) cares about our educational system. Why should they? So far they have proved that any brainless semi-literate can rule the country (only mr. Yar'adua has a university degree in the history of presidents)

aslo, they recycle the same obsolete minded 'statesmen' whose children are already senators or warming up to take over their portfolios.

those who have children have shipped them abroad on state expense or locked them in ASUU-proof universities. Do you expect them to worry about others' children

ASUU must do something drastic like blockading aso rock or barring the gates of nnamdi azikiwe and lagos airports. Or else they'll become great-grandfathers whilst still on the negotiating table. Or worse... Die like their UNILORIN counterparts

These public officials have safely shipped their children abroad to school/work. Do we really think that they care about whether we go on hunger strike like the cross river legislature?

forgive me for being sentimental, but unless ASUU blocks aso rock or abuja airport, their members may negotiate until their great-grand-children are born or even die like some of the unilorin 49
