Two months after TAM: Kaduna, Warri refineries still idle – Daily Trust
October 26, 2009 by Bunmi Awolusi
More than two months since the Turn Around Maintenance (TAM) of the Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Limited [KRPC] was completed, it is still not producing refined petrol because the vandalised pipeline that supplies crude oil to it from Warri, Delta State has not been repaired, Daily Trust learnt yesterday. The Warri Refining and Petrochemicals Company [WRPC], which also underwent a TAM at the same time, is idle for the same reasons.
KPRC has the capacity to process and refine 110,000 barrels of crude oil per day but due to the failure of crude supply, it has been idle for 2 years now. The KRPC recently went through the TAM which gulped about 2.9 million US dollars.
Daily Trust also learnt that the pipelines that supply crude oil to the Warri Refinery from the Chanomi creeks were vandalised and have not yet been repaired, though officials said work is in progress.
WRPC has the capacity to process 125,000 barrels per day but has been idle since the middle of this year due to militants’ attack on the pipeline at the Chanomi Creeks that supplies crude oil toit from Escravos.
Daily Trust gathered that, with only days to go before the full deregulation of the downstream oil sector, the two refineries do not add anything to the products supply chain in the country.
