What Nigerians say as Tribune clocks 60 – Tribune

November 16, 2009 by Bunmi Awolusi

Chief Gbenga Daniel Ogun State Governor
“The Tribune is a major pillar of journalism in Nigeria and good example of an effective mirror of the society. It is a mustard seed planted by Chief Obafemi Awolowo exactly 60 years ago.

I want to commende the courage of Papa Awolowo, the resilence of the chairman of Tribune, who is also the matriarch of the Awolowo dynasty, Yeye Oodua, HID Awolowo and the doggedness of various journalists who -have passed through its crucible. Tribune has, over the years, discharged its duties creditably well to the acclamation of its admirers and the respect of its traducers. In good and bad times, at the finest and most difficult period of the nations history, Tribune has been there, reporting the odyssey of a nation, its ills and its successes and has earned for itself, the appellation of the authentic voice of the people.
