Why education standard is falling, by Sosan, Utomi – The Nation

Lagos State Deputy Governor Adebisi Sosan and Director of the Lagos Business School Prof. Pat Utomi have blamed the woes of education on the collapse of culture.
Delivering a keynote address at the second Lagos State Young Leaders Conference in Ikeja, Mrs. Sosan urged youths to shun bad habits, such as examination malpractices, cultism, and drug abuse, among others.
She said the Governor Babatunde Fashola (SAN)-led administration had been executing programmes to improve the standard of living.
Such policies, Mrs Sosan said, include the supply of free textbooks in all subjects in public schools, and the payment of West African Examination Council (WAEC) examination fees of secondary school students.
“We will continue to design and implement programmes and policies that will ensure our students become leaders in their own right,” she said, adding that the Spelling Bee competition has helped to develop the thinking and decision-making faculties of the child.
Mrs Sosan said the government had just introduced reading time and preparatory period in the public schools to make pupils studious.
