Yar’adua to present 2010 budget tomorrow – Daily Trust

President Umaru Musa Yar’adua is to present the 2010 Appropriation bill to members of the National Assembly tomorrow. The President sent a letter of request to present the figures at a joint session of both chambers of the legislature at 11:00 am.
But indications emerged yesterday that some senators may request that President Yar’adua addresses each chamber separately.
Senator George Thompson Sekibo (PDP, Rivers) coming under a Constitutional point of order insisted that the law does not provide for presentation of the budget before a joint session of the legislature by Mr. President.
Senator Sekibo therefore called for presentation of the budget separately before each of the chambers and not at a joint session. In his ruling, Senate President David Mark said the point of order could not be sustained because “a joint sitting does not negate the provision of the constitution.”
