Yar’Adua invites Mark, Bankole for peace talks – The Nation

November 23, 2009 by Bunmi Awolusi

The President has invited Senate President David Mark and House Speaker Dimeji Bankole for talks.

The “peace meeting” was scheduled for last night at the Presidential Villa. It was part of the moves to resolve the logjam over the presentation of next year’s budget by President Umaru Yar’Adua. The Senate and the House have been quarrelling over the venue of the presidential speech.

A source said: “The attitude of the Presidency is that the disagreement over which of the chambers to use for budget presentation is over a conventional issue and not a constitutional matter.

“In fact, the President was not aware of any crisis until after the Federal Executive Council meeting on Wednesday when the Special Adviser on National Assembly Matters, Senator Abba Aji, came to brief him.
