President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua and visiting Prime Minister of Niger Republic, Mr. Ali Badjo Gamatie, yesterday in Abuja examined economic and security matters between the two countries.
Yar’Adua told his guest that any threat to peace and stability of the neighbouring nation has serious implication for Nigeria.
He said: “Anything that disturbs the peace and stability of your country will concern us in Nigeria.” He pledged that his administration would continue to work with Niger and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) facilitator to ensure a speedy resolution of the political crisis in Niger.
“My brother, President Mamadou Tandja, knows the ECOWAS facilitator, Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar, who has been endorsed by the African Union (AU), and his commitment to peace. He will do his best for Niger. And we will support his efforts.”
It was learnt last night that the delegation from Tandja of Niger, came to Yar’Adua with a plea to reverse the recent sanctions imposed on the country by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
