Inspector General of Police Ogbonna Onovo has been ordered by the Federal Government to investigate the extra-judicial killing of members of the Boko Haram religious sect during its uprising in Maiduguri and other towns last year, Minister of Police Affairs Ibrahim Yakubu Lame told the BBC Hausa Service on Monday night.

An Islamic group, Shiite Movement, has denied link with the Boko Haram sect, saying the movement has over 300 schools across the country teaching both western and Islamic curricula.

More scary facts on the Boko Haram sect emer-ged yesterday in Abuja.
Security sources said the late leader of the sect, Mohammed Yusuf, had about 540,000 followers.
Yusuf was allocated 80kilometres of land in Borno State and all attempts to prevail on Governor Modu Ali Sheriff by security agencies to revoke the allocation were rebuffed by the governor, it was also learnt.
