The University of Ado-Ekiti has dismissed over 500 students of the institution over alleged illegal transfers from one faculty to another.

The university’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dipo Kolawole disclosed this in Ado-Ekiti on Wednesday when he appeared before the State House of Assembly’s Committee on Public Petition and Education, to defend the petition filed against the university’s management by the affected students.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the affected students, in a petition dated February 9, 2010, urged the House to direct the management of UNAD to reverse their dismissal from the institution.

The V-C explained to the committee that the affected students left their various departments without proper documentation by the appropriate authority.

He said that the students’ movements, which he described as illegal, were detected during a screening exercise conducted in December, 2009.
