Reprieve came the way of the South East Regional Manager of Afribank Nigeria Plc, Enugu, Mr. Uba Anichebe, as the police rescued him from suspected kidnappers after spending four days in captivity.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu, who confirmed the rescue of the banker, yesterday said the victim was freed following a raid on the kidnappers’ hideout at Amodu Awkunanaw in Nkanu West Local Government Area.

There was stampede at the Akanu Ibanu International Airport (AIIA), Enugu, yesterday as a Capital Airlines plane caught fire.
One of the plane’s engines went up in flames as it was about taking off.

A gunman was arrested on Saturday morning inside the old Government Lodge, G.R.A. Enugu, where the state governor, Sullivan Chime resides. The arrest of the gunman is coming at a time when factions of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are bickering over the nomination of candidates for the local council poll slated for December this year.

It was a black day for the police in Enugu and Adamawa States yesterday and on Thursday as the two commands lost an officer and three men to bandits and in very controversial circumstances.
In the Enugu incident, hoodlums numbering over 20 defiled the serenity of the university town of Nsukka, where they killed the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Mr. Joe Ejitaga, a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) and two yet to be identified policemen during an attack on the station. The robbers also robbed four banks and left several others seriously injured.
