Scarcity of food items may persist in Lagos – The Punch

The prices of food items in Lagos State may remain high as Northern traders on Monday gave the state government 10 days to end double taxation imposed on them and end “extortion” on the highways.
Although they announced the suspension of their one-week strike, they warned that they might again boycott markets in the state if the government failed to address the issues within the 10 days, starting from yesterday (Monday).
The traders, at a press conference attended by the Sarkin Hausawan Lagos, Alhaji Idris Dogari; the Chief of Nupe in Lagos, Alhaji Jibril Magaji; and Arewa youth leaders, also denied any plot to invade Lagos and Ogun State by Fulani traders.
Justifying the suspended strike , Dogari and Magaji said they had a right to protest infringement on their fundamental rights.
Dogari, who spoke first, said the onus lay with the state government to address the issues raised by traders.
