The Action Congress on Sunday urged Acting President Goodluck Jonathan to immediately remove the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Maurice Iwu.
The party in a statement issued in Lagos by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said Iwu had become a danger not only to Nigeria’s democracy but to the country’s stability, unity and peace.

The Action Congress (AC) has so far called 82 witnesses to testify before the Osun State Election Petition Tribunal.The tribunal began sitting on July 23 last year, hearing the petition filed by the AC governorship candidate, Mr Rauf Aregbesola, against the victory of Gov. Olagunsoye Oyinlola in the April 14, 2007 election. The AC also called a foreign fingerprint expert, Mr Paul Jobbins, as a witness.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is to spend a whopping N11 billion on honoraria (payment of allowances for professional services) and N7.1 billion for the printing of 2011 election ballot papers next year. Under the N4.07 trillion 2010 national budget presented to the National Assembly last week by President Umar Yar’Adua, N47.2 billion is being proposed for INEC’s expenditure.
