A roadmap to a global political agreement on Darfur was endorsed in Abuja at the weekend by the African Union (AU) Peace and Security Council (PSC) because the continent’s team of “wise men” led by former South African President Thabo Mbeki believe it was the most realistic way out of the current crisis in South Western Sudan.

Nigeria will today host a meeting of the African Union’s (AU) Peace and Security Council on Darfur.
But Sudan’s President Omar al-Bashir will stay away from the conference as he is wanted by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for trial on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity in the troubled region.

Amnesty International yesterday alleged that President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua has invited the Sudanese President Omar al Bashir to visit Nigeria even though he is wanted by the International Criminal Court (ICC) on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity.
