6,000mw of electricity supply by Dec may be unrealistic – Minister – Tribune

The December deadline promised by the Federal Government to generate 6,000 megawatts of electricity supply may have eventually been a mirage as only 3,500 megawatts have so far be generated.
The indication to this was disclosed by the Minister of Power, Dr Olanrewaju Babalola, in an interactive session with newsmen during his official visit to Gereku power station located at Ajaokuta, Kogi State, at the weekend.

River Niger Dredging Begins in 2 Weeks – Thisday

The contractors handling the dredging of River Niger, Messrs Von Oard, has said work will commence in two weeks.
The Federal Government had on December 1, 2008 signed a N34.8 billion contract for the dredging of the lower Niger. The project, which covers about 572 kilometres, stretches from Warri in Delta State to Baro in Niger State.

Worried about the rumored plan by religious fundamentalists to invade Kogi after today’s Jumat prayers, the police in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital, have stepped up security surveillance in the state. All routes leading to and from Lokoja are being guarded by security men.
