Acting President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, has approved the appointment of seven additional members into the Presidential Advisory Committee on the Jos Crisis to cover other stakeholders in the state.

In apparent response to outcry from some groups over their non-representation on the committee, representatives of Berom, Anaguta, Yoruba, Igbo and the Niger Delta, among others, have now been appointed to serve on the committee.

Govt moves to protect oil assets in Niger Delta – The Guardian

The Federal Government has raised a 17-man sub-committee for the protection of oil and gas assets within the Niger Delta region, to consolidate the gains of its amnesty programme.

The development came as the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) acquired tracking device to monitor oil vessels coming into Nigeria as a way of maintaining the current availability of petroleum products in the country.

The House of Representatives committee on Navy said it would investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash of the Nigerian Navy helicopter in the Niger Delta, which killed four naval officers.

Chairman of the committee, Rep Bashir Adamu Kazaure (PDP, Jigawa State) told newsmen in Abuja at the weekend that they have already requested the naval authorities to intimate the committee with its preliminary findings on the accident to determine their next line of action.

The Senate may on Tuesday (tomorrow) pass another resolution on the need for President Umaru Yar’Adua to abide by Section 145 of the 1999 Constitution.

The move, said a competent source in the Senate on Sunday, is viewed as a last ditch effort to stem the constitutional crisis that had arisen due to Yar’Adua’s failure to hand over to Vice-President Goodluck Jonathan 77 days after he travelled to Saudi Arabia for medical treatment.
