The Presidency yesterday confirmed that President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, who is undergoing medical treatment in a Saudi Arabian hospital, is suffering from acute pericarditis. This is an inflammation of the membrane surrounding the heart, which can restrict normal beating of the heart.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission yesterday filed a fresh 130-count charge against Hon. Godwin Elumelu, Senator Nicholas Ugbane, Hon. Jibo Mohammed and six others at an Abuja High Court, for allegedly defrauding the federal government of N5.2 billion through the Rural Electrification Agency.

This comes as former Head of State, General Muhammadu Buhari, former Vice-President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, former Governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa, and 20 other Northern politicians signed an article of association to float a political organisation named the National Democratic Movement (NDM).
