Irregular payment of monthly stipends, which has worsened the poverty situation among pensioners, has forced many of them to take to begging in Oyo town, Oyo State.
Neither the state government nor any of the four local governments in Oyo Federal Constituency has put in place a social security system for their retirees, let alone the aged. Most of the poverty reduction programmes of these tiers of government have nothing for the aged, except for women and young adults who are often found to be mainly loyalists of the political party in power.

The charred bodies of the 18 loyalists of a former governor of Oyo State, Senator Rashidi Ladoja, were on Sunday buried amidst wailing, just as two women fainted at the graveside.
At exactly 11:55 a.m, the bodies of the deceased arrived in a Toyota truck marked KF 795 KJA amidst wailing and gnashing of teeth, as all people present at the graveside, lost control when they sighted the fire-mutilated bodies of their loved ones.

A retired military officer, Major-General Rafiu Adesina, has accused the military of being responsible for the level of decadence in government institutions in the country.
The retired general made the accusation at the re-union ceremony of the old students of Oke ’Badan High School, Agugu, Ibadan, Oyo State, at the weekend.

Armed robbers invaded Ogbomosho, the hometown of Oyo State Governor, Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala, yesterday, and carted away an undisclosed amount of money from banks.
The robbers, who attacked about six first and second generation banks along the Ogbomosho-Ilorin highway, were able to overpower the security men manning the banks in an operation that lasted about an hour.

The erstwhile chairman of the Nigeria Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Oyo State Chapter, Alhaji Lateef Akinsola Oluwatoki a.k.a.Tokyo, who has been in police custody since the past two weeks in connection with the murder of two guards of his second in command, and attempted murder of another two persons, was yesterday in Ibadan arraigned before an Iyaganku Chief Magistrate’s Court.
