Key supporters of President Umaru Yar’Adua in the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, are pushing for the conduct of the party’s presidential primaries in June.
Vanguard gathered in Abuja that the decision to push for an early conduct of the primaries by Yar’Adua’s supporters is to ensure that, if he is unable to return to the country soon, a Northerner would emerge as the party’s candidate to contest the 2010 presidential poll.

Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu yesterday said the 2010 Appropriation Bill presented to them by President Umaru Musa Yar’adua will be passed in the next three weeks.
Speaking at the national secretariat of PDP in Abuja, Ekweremadu said the House of Representatives too is also working on the budget.

The House of Representatives committee on Navy said it would investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash of the Nigerian Navy helicopter in the Niger Delta, which killed four naval officers.
Chairman of the committee, Rep Bashir Adamu Kazaure (PDP, Jigawa State) told newsmen in Abuja at the weekend that they have already requested the naval authorities to intimate the committee with its preliminary findings on the accident to determine their next line of action.
