Kidnappers of Pa Simeon Nwankwo Soludo have again lowered their ransom – from N500m to N300 million and now N200 million – the police said yesterday.
Besides, Anambra State Police Commissioner Philemon Leha accused the press of heightening the tension on the kidnap last Tuesday of the 78-year old father of the ex-Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, who wants to be governor.

Unknown gunmen last night kidnapped Pa Simeon Soludo (78), father of Anambra State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate Prof. Chukwuma Soludo.
The septuagenarian was snatched in his hometown, Isuanioma, Aguata Local Government Area, by the kidnappers who were said to have come in a Peugeot 406.

From the critical elements within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), mum was the posture yesterday even as there were growing fears that some aggrieved members of the party who lost out from the selection process that produced former Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, as its standard-bearer for the Anambra State governorship elections might head for the courts this week if nothing was done to assuage them.

As the PDP begins the process of electing its gubernatorial candidate from a list of forty-seven aspirants which includes the former Governor of the Central Bank, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, Senators Annie Okonkwo, Ikechukwu Obiora, Emma Anosike and Prof Ilochi Okafor, among others, the 5-member panel led by Governor Gabriel Suswam, has warned that the party would not hesitate to disqualify any aspirant associated with any form of malpractice and violence.
