Barely a week to the Christmas, Intercontinental Bank Plc yesterday gave unusual gifts to 1,500 members of its staff: “Letter of disengagement from the bank.
The sack letters were served to the affected staff around 3 p.m. yesterday, changing the atmosphere in the financial institution’s banking hall throughout the country to that of shock and disbelief. Those affected were from the position of manager to executive banker level.

An Operations Manager in a first generation bank in Minna, Niger State (names withheld) and a customer have been arrested for attempting to defraud a firm to the tune of N2.85m.
The manager, it was gathered, ordered the clearance of the cheque despite an alarm raised by the staff of the Suleja branch of the bank, which led to the withdrawal of the money from the company account.

An aide to the Rivers State Governor and member of the State Public Procurement Bureau, Mr. Charles Nsiegbe, was, on Friday night, shot dead by unknown gunmen, who were dressed in police uniform.
Nsiege, who was a former lawmaker in the state, was said to be driving home in company of a male associate, when he was stopped by the gunmen who disguised as security personnel at Tombia Street Extension, new Government Reservation Area (GRA), Port Harcourt.

The Ondo State House of Assembly yesterday ordered the Federal Ministry of Finance to “henceforth, until the resolution of the crisis in Ondo councils, withhold all funds that should accrue to the coffers of the 18 local councils in this state.”
