A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja yesterday declined jurisdiction in the suit by Rivers State to settle a controversy arising from the oil block between the state and Akwa Ibom.
Justice Adamu Bello in a judgment that lasted for over an hour said only the Supreme Court could adjudicate on the dispute between two states particularly on the claims brought by the plaintiff. Defendants in the suit are the Attorney-General of the Federation, Accountant-General of the Federation, Attorney-General of Akwa Ibom State, National Boundary Commission (NBC) and Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC).

Also, former Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon (rtd), and former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Solomon Lar, have condemned in strong terms the destruction of lives and property, saying it is unacceptable.
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) said it had moved in relief materials to different camps in the city to help the 40,000 displaced victims of the conflict.
