The Lagos state government has shut down 1800 buildings in the state for violating town planning law.

Most of the buildings were either distressed or didn't follow approved town planning laws.

According to the General Manager, Lagos State Building Control
Agency, LASBCA, Abimbola Animashaun, some houses are still sealed off because owners have refused to do what is necessary for reopening them.

Some 30 buildings have been demolished in Ebute Meta and five more would be demolished in the next two days.

Policemen were on hand during the demolition to prevent unruly behaviour by disgruntled former occupants.

The Official has urged people to follow approved plan and also obtain certificates of occupancy.
