Most airlines operating in Nigeria are old compared to foreign ones. In the developed and developing countries, plane mishaps have some limitations unlike Nigeria where it has suddenly become rampant. This state of air mishaps in Nigeria is nothing to write home about going by its records in the past few years. Aside these mishaps, some other factors like mismanagement, unskilled workers, old aircraft, and so on, may tarnish the images of airline operators in Nigeria. Explained in this article, are the 5 types of airline you should not board in Nigeria.

Bad Safety Records
Dating back a couple of years during the first civilian administration in Nigeria, many plane mishaps occurred which almost plunged the country into an unpalatable pandemonium. During this period, the aviation industry witnessed several loss of lives, and properties worth billions were abruptly destroyed. With this development, air travelers are advised to ascertain and get adequate information on the safety records of any airline they wish to board.

Old Aircraft
Some of these airline operators in Nigeria operate with genuine licenses but use old aircraft to convey air travelers to their different destinations. Even after receiving awards from media houses and corporate bodies as best airline operators, no Nigerian airline is using the most current aircraft, rather, they use the antiquated and abandoned ones being imported into the country making Nigeria nothing but a dump ground. Though the most modern of aircraft can not be found in Nigeria, but in the interest of air travelers, airlines operating with very old aircraft should not be patronized.

Unskilled Engineers
Due to high cost, almost all Nigerian airlines are not ready to invest on trained engineers that will oversee all the faults of their planes. They try as much to cut cost at the same time maximizing profits, thereby putting the lives of their passengers on the line. A proper observation made it clear that plane crashes became a recurring phenomenon due to this reason. Air travelers must be alert at all times to avoid boarding airlines that are strictly profit oriented with less interest and concern for the welfare if its customers.

Inadequately Trained Pilots
Nigerian airline pilots need regular training to update their knowledge and flying ability on the 21st century aviation technology. The question is, "How many airlines in Nigeria are willing to send their pilots on such trainings?" Though it can be an expensive and tasking project, but if that is what will protect the image and boost the reputation of the airline, it is worth the venture. Air travelers may not know the flying knowledge of a pilot, but judging from airline's past records, they can be in position to decide whether to board the airline or not.

Poor management
Those who are not capable to run airlines should be put out of business. Aircraft need regular maintenance and check before its daily take off and landing. It will only be proper for the government to checkmate the activities of airline operators in Nigeria, and not just investigations and probings after mishaps. All these excesses should be checked and curbed by the Nigerian Government before licenses can be issued. Any airline who do not meet proper safety standards should not be boarded.
