Enugu State Universal Basic Education Board (ESUBEB) conducted an interview for 6,251 applicants who applied for 400 teaching posts. The vacancies were for primary and secondary school teachers. The recruitment exercise is part of the efforts by the FG to ensure that primary and secondary schools in the country have enough teachers.

This figure does not include the people who applied but didn't make it to the interview phase.

Successful candidates will be employed as teachers for two years with monthly salaries of N18,000.

Candidates have expressed worry over the use of connections to determine those who will get the jobs rather than merit.

According to a Mr. Eke, “Writing this interview is not the problem but my
fear is that those who have connections will give
this job to their friends, brothers and sisters,” (Mr Eke was interviewed at the venue by NANS).

However, an official of UBE, Mrs Eze has assured candidates that recruitment will be based on merit.
