Politics Anambra Governorship Elections: Obiano Emerges APGA Candidate

According to the Nation, Chief Willie Obiano has emerged winner in the primaries elections of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) held in Awka, Anambra on Monday.

Chief Patrick Obianwu, however, earlier announced his step-down for Obiano a fellow Anambra North senatorial zone contestant who eventually won, saying that his move was to keep the dream of the zone producing the next governor alive.

Obianwu’s action reduced the number of contestants from initial seven to six, other contestants were, Chief Paul Odenigbo 49 votes, and Emeka Nwogbo 22 votes, Mr John Nwosu scored 18 votes while Mr. John Emeka whose withdrawal was turned down for his absence scored one vote and 16 votes were voided.Obiano got 817 votes out of the possible 1,076 as announced by the Chairman of the electoral Panel, Chief Martin Agbaso, while Mrs Uche Ekwunife got 150 votes to come second.

Delegates to the primaries who reacted to the outcome of the primaries and rated conduct of the election as most peaceful in the state in recent times and a true reflection of the wishes of the party members.
