A technologically advanced approach called Intra-Cytosplasmic Morphologically-Selected Sperm Injection, IMSI has been introduced by Nordica Fertility Centre to bring down the rising problem of male-factor infertility among Nigerian men.
IMSI allows precise selection of good sperms from the man and then injecting into the woman’s egg to successfully achieve pregnancy. It is a improvement on a previously existing treatment for male-factor infertility treatment procedure called Intra-Cytosplasmic Sperm Injection, ICSI.
Medical; Director, Nordica Fertility Centre, Lagos, Dr. Abayomi Ajayi, said that after a research was carried out on a certain amount of male sperms in his clinic, the result showed that male fertility had declined over the decade, hence the need for a technology like IMSI.
He added that IMSI has recorded a rise in pregnancy rate in women even those who didn't get pregnant by the ICSI method and Nigerian couples have been encouraged to take advantage of the technique.
