Super Eagles coach,Stephen Keshi, has invited 42 players for the 2014 World Cup qualifier against Malawi next month.
The bulk of the team is from the Nigerian league, with 24 homebased players being invited while 18 foreign-based players completes the squad.
Defending why he invited so many homebased players,Keshi said that he wants to give some untested players a run-in and identify those that can make the team to the African Nations Championship next year.
“We are calling up 24 home boys in order to be able to identify new players for the 2014 African Nations Championship, for which we have already qualified,” said Keshi.
However only five homebased players will eventually team up with the 18 foreign-based players, for the game against Malawi on September 7 and also the friendly game against Burkina Faso on September 10.
The Super Eagles will square up against Burkina Faso in Kaduna, months after both teams clashed in the finals of the African Nations Cup in Johannesburg on February 10,2013.
