N1 billion spent to tackle illiteracy by Jigawa state government

The government of Jigawa state declared that it has spent N1 billion to train 18,000 adults on basic literacy and to provide learning facilities across the state. This is part of the state's effort to meet the UNESCO standard on universal education.

This was disclosed by the Executive Secretary of Jigawa State Agency
for Mass Education, Dr. Ya'u Haruna Usman at the opening ceremony of a six-day training workshop for facilitators of basic literacy centres.

The workshop was aimed at providing the facilitators with needed skills to tackle illiteracy.

Dr Usman commended the state's efforts towards eradicating illiteracy at all levels in the state.
