Last Friday, Nigerian media were social commentary was engaged with the story of a bird that transformed into a middle-aged woman at Cappa bus stop in Oshodi.
Latest reports say she is dead.
Eyewitness accounts say the woman, in the form of a bird, had fallen from an electric cable, and confessed to be a witch. The woman had been beaten by the crowd, and was unconscious when the police came to take her to the hospital.
PRO for the Lagos Police, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, confirming the death, said: “Eyewitnesses said there was a bird which fell down and turned into a woman. So, a large crowd gathered round her. She was not attacked. Eventually, when the police got there, they rescued the woman from the surging crowd. But unfortunately, she died, and her body has been deposited at the Mainland General Hospital’s morgue.”

A policeman said that the woman, who had been coming from Agbado Ijaiye was heading to her husband's house in Mushin. Apparently, by eyewitness reports, a bird had been flying around the area, then it hit the high-tension cable and fell to the ground, where it transformed into the woman.
According to a Mr. Sobowale, “It was at 12 in the afternoon. I was also at the bus stop with friends. We saw one of the birds hit a high-tension cable. It shrieked and landed on the ground. Before we took any notice, it was a badly burnt woman we saw.
“It is unbelievable but it is true. When we spoke to the woman, she claimed to have some magical powers, and had killed several people. She added that she was returning to her husband’s house in Mushin before the incident. So, some people started taking her photographs.”
