Chairman, Virgin Group, Sir Richard Branson has sent his appreciation to the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Umar Yar’adua, for his intervention in the Virgin Nigeria issue and promise to abide by the agreement of the contract.
“I’m personally grateful to the President of Nigeria for personally intervening over this issue and agreeing to abide by the contract that Virgin Nigeria has with the Nigerian government in keeping with the rule of law.”
“We are waiting for the written order from the President. Until we receive it, to avoid disrupting our passengers any further, we will temporarily operate from the MMA2 domestic terminal. We expect this to be for a very short period as we continue to dialogue with the Federal Government and relevant authorities.” said Conrad Clifford, Chief Executive of Virgin Nigeria.
Meanwhile, Virgin Nigeria has announced that due to the forced eviction of its domestic operations out of the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, despite the existence of the matter before the Court of Appeal, slated for hearing on 7th October 2008, the company is compelled to temporarily operate its domestic flights out of the MMA2 to minimise disruptions and inconvenience to its customers and the travelling public.
Virgin Nigeria has therefore commenced temporary domestic operations from the MMA2 on Friday, 15 August 2008.
All pre-booked and intending passengers are advised to connect their flights from the Murtala Mohammed Airport Terminal 2 (MMA2).
“Whilst we await determination of our case by the court, we will continue to dialogue with the Federal Government and the relevant authorities.”
“We wish to sincerely apologise for any inconvenience that passengers may experience as a result of the schedule disruptions which are beyond our control.”
