According to a U.S. Official, the United States have concluded deals with the Republic of Niger to send American military personnel to the region in order to help them fight the rebels and Islamic terrorists in Mali and the region as a whole.

According to another U.S. defence official, the agreement would make possible the deployment of certain military effects, including the stationing of U.S. personnel in the country. They will also be granted exemption from Niger’s domestic laws.

The country made the decision to involve the United States after France ground troops took control of some cities including Timbuktu yesterday, following an air strike in Mali on January 11.
