Atiku Abubakar has denied claims that he received campaign funds from Lagos Governor Sanwo-Olu for the 2023 election. His media office dismissed the allegations as political propaganda and urged the EFCC to disclose its findings. The controversy is seen as an attempt to disrupt Nigeria’s opposition politics.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has denied allegations that he received campaign funds from Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu during the 2023 presidential election. A report claimed that both Atiku and Labour Party’s Peter Obi were financially backed by Sanwo-Olu through a proxy.

In a statement released on Thursday, Atiku’s media office described the claim as a “blatant lie” and “political propaganda” orchestrated to serve President Bola Tinubu’s interests. The statement emphasized that Atiku had never met or interacted with Sanwo-Olu, dismissing the allegations as an attempt to discredit opposition leaders.

Atiku’s camp also suggested that the story was part of a strategy to undermine Sanwo-Olu’s position and disrupt emerging opposition alliances. The media office urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to make any findings on the matter public, reinforcing that the allegations were baseless and politically motivated.
