Obafemi Adebanjo, the eldest son of the late Afenifere leader Pa Ayo Adebanjo, has shared his father’s final words before his passing at 96. According to Obafemi, Pa Adebanjo remained steadfast in his political principles and was determined to uphold the ideals he shared with the late Obafemi Awolowo.
Speaking to journalists, Obafemi disclosed that his father often repeated that if he met Awolowo in the afterlife, he would proudly declare that he had not compromised their shared values. "Baba, I didn’t concede an inch," were among his last words, emphasizing his lifelong dedication to Awolowo’s vision.
Pa Adebanjo, a renowned Yoruba leader and strong advocate of restructuring in Nigeria, passed away peacefully in his Lekki residence. His son revealed that in his final days, he wished for a quicker passing due to the toll of his illness. However, despite his frailty, he remained resolute in his beliefs and unwavering in his stance on national issues.
Obafemi described his father as a principled man who never wavered under pressure. "He was a man of conviction. Even if he stood alone, he remained firm in what he believed," he said. He added that history would remember Pa Adebanjo as a man who upheld integrity and stayed true to his ideals.
