Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma has given insights into the qualities he believes his successor should possess while cautioning against premature political maneuvering.

During a meeting with political leaders from Imo East Senatorial District at the Government House in Owerri, Uzodimma emphasized that he still had three years left in office unless he was “poisoned.” He warned against overheating the political atmosphere, urging stakeholders to focus on governance rather than early campaign activities.

Addressing his audience, Uzodimma stressed the need for a bold and courageous leader to succeed him, citing the security challenges that marked his tenure. He noted that while he could not solve all of Imo’s problems, his successor must be prepared to confront pressing issues.

He also cautioned against external influences, warning that politicians might be enticed with promises but later abandoned after elections. “We must differentiate between personal desires and collective interests,” he stated.

The governor, who secured a controversial victory in his first term and later won re-election by a landslide, insisted that politics should be approached with love and understanding rather than confrontation.

Uzodimma’s comments have sparked discussions about potential candidates for Imo’s top seat, with political observers interpreting his remarks as an attempt to shape the succession narrative while reinforcing his political dominance.
