Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has hailed the tribunal’s ruling affirming his election victory, dismissing PDP’s petition over lack of evidence. He called for unity and urged opponents to support Edo’s progress. Okpebholo reassured citizens of his commitment to good governance and delivering on campaign promises.

Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has praised the ruling of the state governorship election tribunal, which upheld his victory in the September 21, 2024, election. The tribunal, led by Justice Wilfred Kpochi, dismissed the petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Asue Ighodalo, citing insufficient evidence to support their claims.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, as the winner of the election with 291,667 votes, defeating Ighodalo, who secured 247,274 votes. However, the PDP challenged the results, alleging electoral irregularities. The tribunal ruled that the petitioners failed to present credible witnesses or substantial proof to back their claims.

In response to the judgment, Okpebholo released a statement through his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, emphasizing that the victory belonged to the people of Edo State. He extended an invitation to Ighodalo and other opposition figures to work together for the state’s progress.

“This triumph is not mine alone; it belongs to every citizen and resident of Edo State,” Okpebholo stated. “We must move forward together to ensure good governance, transparency, and inclusive development.”

He assured Edo residents that his administration remains focused on fulfilling campaign promises, prioritizing economic growth, infrastructure development, and social welfare. While acknowledging the legal battle, he expressed confidence that the state would benefit more from unity than prolonged political disputes.
