Political turmoil rocked the Lagos State House of Assembly as 36 lawmakers firmly rejected the return of Mudashiru Obasa, the ousted Speaker, to the legislative complex. The lawmakers, who had previously voted in favor of Mojisola Meranda as Speaker on February 17, gathered at the Assembly garden to reiterate their stance.
Speaking on behalf of the legislators, the Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Strategy, and Security, Stephen Ogundipe, condemned Obasa’s ‘forceful’ entry into the premises, calling it an affront to democratic principles. He expressed frustration over the lack of communication from the leadership, urging for transparency in decision-making.
“We are humiliated by this action. We reject Obasa in totality,” Ogundipe declared, as his colleagues echoed the sentiment in unison. The lawmakers also lamented being denied entry into the assembly chambers, describing the situation as an embarrassment that must be addressed.
