Emir of Kano, Lamido Sanusi, has warned against any attempts to disrupt peace in the city, declaring "fire will consume" those opposing his reinstatement. In a passionate address, he urged patience and prayer from the people, stressing that the dispute was against divine will.
Emir of Kano, Lamido Sanusi, has issued a passionate call for peace, urging residents of the city to remain law-abiding and avoid actions that could spark unrest. In a recorded message shared by Premier Radio on March 24, 2025, Sanusi warned those opposing his reinstatement as emir, declaring that "fire will consume" anyone seeking to disrupt the peace in Kano.
Sanusi stated that the ongoing dispute surrounding his emirship was not a personal battle but rather a conflict against divine will. He urged the people of Kano to remain patient and prayerful, asserting that those challenging his return would ultimately face negative consequences. "This war is not targeted at me," he said. "They are fighting against what God has destined."
Sanusi’s strong words were accompanied by a curse, stating that those working to destabilize the city would not find peace. "May Allah protect our country and our lives," he added, emphasizing that God’s decision regarding the emirship would prevail, and those opposing it would not end well.
The Emir's remarks are linked to heightened tensions following the governor's directive for preparations for the Sallah durbar procession, which led to a rivalry between Sanusi and his competitor, Aminu Ado Bayero. The latter is also planning a durbar event to mark his fifth anniversary as Emir of Kano, adding fuel to the ongoing dispute.
This conflict follows the state government's controversial decision to remove Ado Bayero and reinstate Sanusi under new emirates laws, with both men now claiming the emirship and occupying separate palaces.
