Responding to criticism from President Tinubu’s administration, Atiku insisted he did not lose the election and condemned Tinubu’s economic policies, asserting they have worsened citizens’ hardships.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has asserted that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) manipulated the results of the 2023 presidential election. His comments came in response to recent criticisms from the Presidency regarding his remarks on President Bola Tinubu's policies.

Atiku, who represented the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the election, lamented the hardships Nigerians face, claiming he could have led the nation more effectively had he won. Bayo Onanuga, a media aide to Tinubu, countered by stating that the country would have been worse off under Atiku’s leadership, insisting that Nigerians clearly rejected him at the polls.

In a statement addressing Onanuga’s comments, Atiku emphasized, “I did not lose the election; rather, it was stolen from the Nigerian people, as those who voted are fully aware.” He further criticized Tinubu’s proposed tax reforms, arguing that Nigeria cannot solve its economic challenges through increased taxation, especially when other countries have thrived with lower tax rates.

Atiku pointed out examples like the United Arab Emirates and Qatar, which have become economic powerhouses without heavy taxation. He questioned why the current administration is focused on imposing additional burdens on citizens already struggling to make ends meet.
