A Nigerian man, Mr. Folajimi, whose wife passed away after being denied care at a hospital due to an inability to pay a N500,000 deposit, has responded to media personality Reuben Abati’s criticism. Abati had publicly criticized Folajimi for not having the required funds to admit his wife, suggesting that he should have been financially prepared given the nine months of pregnancy.

In a video shared online, Folajimi explained that he had saved N100,000 for the emergency but was unable to meet the N500,000 deposit required by the hospital. He emphasized that he never publicly sought help for antenatal care or daily expenses during his wife’s pregnancy, and he did not intend to cause harm. He also expressed his frustration at being criticized for not having enough money, pointing out that it should not be a crime to be financially strained during such a critical time.

After the tragic death of his wife, Folajimi was able to raise the N500,000, which was used for mortuary and related expenses. He shared his sentiments on social media, highlighting the pressures many face in Nigeria, where financial struggles can exacerbate life-threatening situations.
