Speaking during a meeting with former lawmakers at the State House in Abuja, he acknowledged the pervasive hunger in the country while using a metaphor about “free beer parlours” to highlight the importance of dedication and effort in achieving meaningful development.
Tinubu stressed that true progress demands commitment, urging citizens to recognize the need for collaboration in nation-building and the restructuring of the financial system. “Look at us. Agriculture is the main thing. Yes, I understand that we are hungry. But we cannot just take a free bowl. We must work hard,” he said, reminding the populace of the enduring democracy Nigeria has maintained for twenty-five years.
He further lamented missed opportunities in critical sectors such as infrastructure and education, which have contributed to the current economic challenges. With food inflation rising to a staggering 37.52%, Tinubu pointed out the dire implications for millions of Nigerians grappling with the high cost of living and food insecurity.
