A 13-year-old pupil in Akwa Ibom was arrested for threatening classmates with a pistol at St. Paul Primary School. Police recovered the firearm, which the boy had been carrying since November 2024. Investigations also led to the arrest of individuals involved in child trafficking.

Police in Akwa Ibom have arrested a 13-year-old pupil for allegedly threatening his schoolmates with a locally made pistol at St. Paul Primary School, located in Ikot Ibiok, Eket Local Government Area. The incident was reported on January 30, when the child was seen with the firearm, threatening to shoot his fellow pupils.

Upon receiving the information, law enforcement swiftly responded, apprehending the suspect and recovering the gun. The pupil later admitted that he had possessed the weapon since November 2024, claiming he took it from his father’s bedroom. The father has also been arrested, and investigations are ongoing into the source of the firearm.

In other developments, the police arrested two young girls involved in the kidnapping and trafficking of a child in Obong Itam, Itu Local Government Area. The girls allegedly sold the child for N200,000 to a buyer in Cross River. The girls confessed to the crime and used the proceeds to purchase household appliances, which have since been recovered. Investigations continue to track down the buyer.

Additionally, two other young girls reported an attempt to traffic them to Cross River for illegal purposes. The police acted on the complaint and arrested two women, Gift Essien Tommy and Peace Ekanem, in connection with the trafficking scheme. These cases highlight the ongoing efforts of the Akwa Ibom Police to address issues of child safety and trafficking in the region.
