A tragic road accident in Kano has claimed 16 lives and left 52 injured. The crash occurred on the Kano-Maiduguri Road near the Muhammadu Buhari Interchange Flyover at 9:50 p.m. on Tuesday. A DAF trailer carrying passengers and goods lost control due to overspeeding, according to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
The FRSC, alongside the Nigeria Police Force, quickly responded to the scene, transporting the victims to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital. A total of 71 individuals were involved in the accident. The FRSC’s Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Labaran, confirmed the number of casualties and stated that emergency operations were swiftly executed.
The Sector Commander of the FRSC Kano, CC UM Matazu, expressed condolences to the victims' families and urged drivers to avoid overloading trailers with passengers and goods. Matazu emphasized that such dangerous practices heighten the risk of fatal accidents.
An FRSC investigation team has been dispatched to further investigate the incident, while traffic flow in the area has been restored. The FRSC continues to urge motorists to adhere to traffic regulations to prevent future accidents and loss of life.
