At the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs), South African artist Tyla clinched the Best Afrobeats award for her hit song Water. The win is a significant milestone in her career, further elevating her presence in the global Afrobeats scene.

The Best Afrobeats category had tough competition, featuring major artists like Burna Boy with City Boys, Chris Brown's collaboration with Davido and Lojay on Sensational, Tems' Love Me JeJe, and Usher and Pheelz’s Ruin. Despite the fierce lineup, Tyla emerged victorious, underscoring her rising influence in the genre.
