Former Jigawa State governor Sule Lamido has urged opposition leaders, including Peter Obi and Nasir El-Rufai, to return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to strengthen the party ahead of the 2027 elections. He emphasized that only a united PDP can effectively challenge President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

As Nigeria gears up for the 2027 general elections, former Jigawa State governor Sule Lamido has issued a call for opposition leaders, including Nasir El-Rufai, Peter Obi, and Rabiu Kwankwaso, to return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to strengthen the party’s chances of reclaiming power.

Speaking to members of the PDP in Jigawa State, Lamido emphasized that defeating President Bola Tinubu’s administration would require unity rather than emotional reactions or political revenge. He insisted that only a revitalized PDP, bringing together its former chieftains, could mount a formidable challenge.

Lamido pointed out that many of today’s opposition leaders, including former governors, ministers, and legislators, initially rose to prominence under the PDP. He urged them to put aside political differences and rejoin the party, stating that without the PDP, Nigeria’s democratic history since 1999 would be incomplete.

He also credited PDP loyalists for their commitment to the party’s principles despite the country’s current political and economic difficulties. Lamido warned against impulsive political decisions and called for strategic thinking to navigate the nation’s challenges effectively.

As discussions surrounding potential alliances intensify, Lamido’s remarks highlight the ongoing struggle for unity within Nigeria’s opposition, setting the stage for what could be a decisive showdown in 2027.
