SDP’s 2023 presidential candidate, Adewole Adebayo, has ruled out any merger with APC or other parties ahead of the 2027 elections. Speaking in Ogun State, he reaffirmed SDP’s independence, emphasizing its commitment to justice, progress, and the welfare of Nigerians, distancing the party from political alliances.

The presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the 2023 elections, Adewole Adebayo, has dismissed any possibility of his party merging or aligning with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) or any other political group ahead of the 2027 elections.

Speaking in Abeokuta, Ogun State, during a meeting with the party’s state executives, Adebayo made it clear that SDP remains committed to its core values and would not compromise its independence for political convenience. He was accompanied by former Sports Minister Solomon Dalung and party leaders from Lagos, Oyo, and Ogun states.

Addressing speculation that the SDP was operating as an extension of the APC, Adebayo refuted the claims, emphasizing that the party has always stood for the welfare of Nigerians.

"If APC has an issue, they should fix it themselves. We are an independent party with a clear mission. We are not part of any government, and all our party leaders remain committed to our cause," he stated.

Adebayo highlighted SDP’s long-standing ideological stance, noting that the party has always prioritized policies focused on education, healthcare, infrastructure, and poverty alleviation. He referenced the legacy of Chief MKO Abiola, stressing that SDP remains a platform for those willing to make sacrifices for the betterment of the Nigerian people.

"Anyone who wants to join the SDP must align with our principles. We stand for justice, progress, and the people. We cannot support the poor while also aligning with those who oppress them," he said.

State party chairman Ola Williams also took the opportunity to welcome genuine new members who share the SDP’s vision. With Adebayo’s firm stance, the SDP positions itself as a key player in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape, setting the stage for what promises to be an intense contest in the 2027 elections.
