In a shocking incident in Benin City, Edo State, Osaro Ahuwa, 55, has been arrested for setting his estranged wife’s house on fire. The attack occurred on New Year's Day after Uyi Tina, an Italy-based businesswoman, returned to Nigeria. According to eyewitness reports, Osaro attempted to enter Tina’s residence, but she refused, citing their relationship ended after her family returned her bride price in April 2024. Enraged, Osaro smashed the house’s windows, poured petrol inside, and set the building ablaze.
Tina, who was asleep at the time, narrowly escaped the fire but sustained burns. Tragically, her house, including valuables worth £4,000 and her Lexus RX 330, was destroyed. Osaro was arrested along with an accomplice, Odaro Oviarobo, who is believed to be Tina’s brother. The Edo State Police Command confirmed the arrests and stated that investigations are ongoing.
CSP Moses Joel Yamu, the police spokesperson, stated that the command received a distress call around 1:30 a.m. on January 1, 2025, informing them of the devastating attack. The police are actively investigating the case, and both Osaro and his accomplice remain in custody. The crime has shocked the local community, drawing attention to the rising issues of domestic violence and the need for justice.
