The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) has announced the elevation of 58 lawyers to the prestigious rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN). This decision was reached during the 159th plenary session of the committee, chaired by Olukayode Ariwoola, the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).
The title of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) is bestowed upon legal professionals who have demonstrated excellence in advocacy and academics. Hajo Bello, Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court, stated that four petitions against some of the applicants were reviewed during the meeting, but each petition was deemed lacking in merit and subsequently dismissed.
The swearing-in ceremony for the newly appointed Senior Advocates of Nigeria is scheduled for November 27, marking a significant milestone in their legal careers. Among those elevated to the rank of SAN are prominent figures like Kayode Ajulo, a human rights activist; Funmi Falana, the wife of renowned lawyer Femi Falana; and Folashade Alli, the daughter of Afe Babalola, a distinguished lawyer, along with Adeola Adedipe, a constitutional lawyer.
This recognition serves as a testament to their contributions and excellence in the legal profession, acknowledging their dedication and expertise in the field. The legal community in Nigeria celebrates their achievements as they take on new responsibilities and continue to uphold the highest standards of legal practice
