Plateau State is facing an alarming rise in insecurity, with Governor Caleb Muftwang revealing that no less than 64 communities across the state have been overtaken by bandits. The governor, during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, emphasized that these attacks are not merely random criminal activities but part of a larger, organized effort to destabilize the region.
Muftwang accused terrorist groups of being behind the coordinated assaults, asserting that the level of destruction points to a deliberate attempt to erase entire populations. “It’s clear that these attacks are more than just acts of violence; they seem to be orchestrated by forces with larger goals, possibly genocide,” he stated.
The governor also questioned the identities of the individuals or groups sponsoring the attacks, urging security agencies to intensify efforts to uncover these hidden backers. His concerns stemmed from the fact that many of the affected communities had been targeted before, with some, like Ruwi, rebuilding after previous assaults. However, the bandits’ persistence has left residents in a state of constant fear.
In his comments, Muftwang noted that the situation in the state is not a mere result of farmer-herder conflicts, as some might suggest. Instead, he described it as an organized criminal agenda aimed at throwing the state into chaos. He remains hopeful that security agencies will soon collaborate effectively to address the problem.
