The Lagos State Government announced it generated over $71.6 million during the 2024 ‘Detty December’ festivities, showcasing the city’s vibrant tourism and entertainment sectors. The revenue was primarily drawn from hotels ($44 million) and short-let apartments ($13 million), according to Idris Aregbe, Special Adviser on Tourism, Arts, and Culture.

The festivities, coordinated by MO Africa Consulting, included diverse events such as the Mrs. Universe Africa pageant, the Greater Lagos Fiesta, music concerts, cultural exhibitions, and international highlights like the Spotify Wrapped Concert and African Fashion Week. These events attracted large crowds from within Nigeria and abroad, significantly boosting the local economy.

Aregbe credited the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for fostering creativity and innovation, making Lagos a premier cultural and tourism hub. He emphasized that the success of ‘Detty December’ underscores Lagosians' resilience and ingenuity, from artisans to entrepreneurs.

The state plans to build on this success through the 2025 Lagos Tourism is Rising campaign, aiming to solidify Lagos as a leading destination for culture and economic growth. The government expressed gratitude to industry stakeholders, artisans, and the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture for their contributions to the season's achievements.
