The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has detained 90 individuals in Rivers State for alleged involvement in cybercrime. Y.I. Abdulmajeed, the state comptroller, disclosed that the operation, executed with the support of other security agencies, targeted locations based on actionable intelligence.

Of the detained group, 85 were Cameroonians, five were Chadians, and four were Nigerians. The suspects included 74 men and 20 women. According to Abdulmajeed, the foreign nationals entered Nigeria through illegal routes and lacked proper travel documentation or residency permits.

Two Nigerians accused of providing shelter to the foreign suspects were also arrested. The operation highlights the ongoing efforts of security agencies to address illegal migration and cybercrime, both of which pose significant threats to national security.

The Comptroller-General of the NIS, Kemi Nandap, has ordered a detailed investigation into the case to uncover the full extent of the suspects’ activities. Officials aim to ensure that those found guilty are held accountable under the law.

Abdulmajeed urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to local authorities, emphasizing that collaboration between communities and security agencies is crucial in maintaining safety.
